An Apple A Day

apple

(Wow, I know when I’ve not been good about updating my blog when I have a million and one spam comments about certain drugs to trawl through and delete!)

It’s a beautifully clear day, there’s frost on the ground and all I really want to do is go out and maybe take some photos. Christmas shopping can wait until maybe tomorrow…or the next day? See, this is why I always end up racing around the shops on Christmas Eve.

I recently had the opportunity to take some promotional shots for a dental clinic which was a lot of fun. I know, it sounds funny to say taking photos of teeth would be fun but it really was. I had a good laugh with Sarah, my model for the day, and I got to play around with some new camera toys that the dentist uses. Always fun for a geek like me. Here’s one of Sarah about to take a bite out of a nice juicy apple:

An Apple A Day
Canon 10D 85mm, f3.5, 1/250, ISO 100

For this photograph I stood Sarah in front of a white wall in the clinic with a window to her right which had handy frosted glass to diffuse the light, I then had her hold a white sheet of paper on her left side to reflect some of the light back onto the shadowed side of her face.

Sorry about the watermark, I don’t like to use them but with this being a business image I have to protect it. Sad but true that although many people get in touch and ask before they use images, it’s not always the case. Donncha‘s had his fair share of photos stolen, as has Redmum, and although it seems arrogant to think that anyone would want to steal mine I didn’t want to take the chance with this one.

That’s a great shot, and perfect fodder for someone trying to market a healthy lifestyle!

See my Cork Landmarks image posted yesterday? I added my name and url to the end of the image. It’s not going to stop someone cropping it out but if someone hotlinks it off Flickr without the necessary link back then at least there will be a url there ..

That’s nicely done Donncha, it’s subtle and doesn’t detract from the image. Particularly hard when you watermark landscapes.

Well Claire, great shot. Best of luck with your new projects.

What you getting for Christmas, Im Eyeing up the New Nikon D300, fantastic spec, I guess the Lenses will have to wait.

In case i’m not arround, Have a wonderful Christmas.
Maurice

Happy Christmas to you too Maurice, and I hope Santa has a Nikon-shaped box under the tree for you. I wouldn’t mind a new Canon 5D myself but I think I’ll have to wait awhile for that one!

Hi Claire,
Great shot – your portrait stuff is great. Re: the watermark – I’ve been forced to do the same myself. As you say, most people ask, but it’s really annoying when someone steals a pic.

I saved one of your lovely leaf/lake pictures to my desktop… I hope you don’t mind! It’s just so nice to look at. Am I a robber?
Sarah 😉

Thanks John, your watermark is really subtle, barely there so as not to ruin the photograph but yet enough to deter any thieves.

@Sarah: LOL, criminal! I’m talking more about people who download images to use commercially without asking.
