It’s working itself up to be a stormy night. I have to admit if it wasn’t for this project (and everyone’s encouraging comments…thank you so much!), I would have gotten a nice warm blanket and curled up in front of the fire when I came home from college today. But! A hot chocolate in the Happy Pear was just the ticket served by the hilarious and charming José.

Claire just wanted to say fair play on this project – the shots have been great and it’s heartening to see how well it’s going after your early concerns. I’m a bit jealous of the motivation you’ve shown, especially in the middle of January!!
On a random note could you recommend any good beginners digital photography classes around Dublin?
I totally agree with Colin – fair play. There I am, using the weather as an excuse to do feck all and here you are full of pep and lovely pics!
Also Colin, I’m on the lookout for a decent beginners course myself – the Temple Bar Gallery of Photography (galleryofphotography.ie/courses) comes highly recommended but is really oversubscribed as they keep classes to a max of six – no spaces ’til March at the mo! I’m thinking of signing up for the one the Dublin Camera Club are running – dublincameraclub.ie
But Claire if you had recommendations for Dublin courses (or weekend workshops) I would really welcome them!
Thanks to you both! I’m afraid I have no experience of any of the classes around Dublin, I have heard good things about the Temple Bar one though. When I first got my camera and I was wanting to learn what the buttons did (I knew nothing at all…aperture/shutter speed…completely clueless) I just did a run-of-the-mill evening course. It wasn’t anything special, the teacher was ok if a little old-fashioned, but it was enough to get me going. Since then my best educator has been the internet and books like Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson…Flickr, forums, photobloggers…and just taking lots and lots of photos.
Thanks for that Claire, I have to say I’m completely baffled by all the buttons myself but fingers crossed!

DIYPhotography.net did an excellent Back To Basics series awhile back that is a brilliant starting point (or refresher) for understanding your camera.
