Portfolio

A little over a year ago when I started this blog, my intention was always to use it as a way to learn a bit about webpages so that I could get my portfolio online. Well, I got a bit sidetracked when I realised just how fun (and time-consuming) blogging is but I finally sat myself down and got my portfolio done. That’s what a looming deadline will do for you.

You can find it here, or by following the button on the sidebar, and I’d appreciate any feeback, particularly if you find something is broken or I’ve forgotten to link all the dots. It’s sure to need some tweaking and I’m still getting my head around compression of movie files. It includes some animation from the game I was working on for the past year since it was released last week, as well as animation and artwork from older projects.

If you know anything about webpage design and you peek under the site’s skirts…yes, I hang my head in shame…the code shows I’m winging it I’m afraid. Still, if it works until I can figure out the enigma that is Dreamweaver, that’s all I ask for now.

Claire…I really wanted to see the animation, but for some reason, I wasn’t able to. It never actually gave me a reason why either. I just have to say that I am a bit sad because I don’t feel like I got to know this creative side of you. It was a short time, yes, but an intense time, and I feel like I’ve missed out on so much of who you are. In heaven, we’ll hang out again and reacquaint ourselves, ok?

Take care..flee

Hi Flee,

I’m hoping we get to sit down and catch up a lot sooner than that 😉

Hmm, the animation files are pretty big so maybe that was why you couldn’t see them…either that or you don’t have Quicktime installed. Thanks for letting me know, I’ll have to put a button in to show people where to install it or something.

Just having a look through it now, your work’s amazing, especially catwoman, outstanding animation (*must …. hide … jealousy*)

I know a bit about web design, the only comment about the design I have is that I get side scrolling when the window is narrower than 1000 pxs. There should be no need for this as your content is only 600px wide. The problem appears to be your left margin which should be flexible. (mail me if you need help debugging)

p.s. got myself a copy of Max 8 recently … now if only I knew how to use it …

Hi Maca, thanks for checking out my site. I had a lot of fun animating Catwoman eventhough the game didn’t do so well 😀

I haven’t touched Max in about 5 years so I’d probably be just as lost with it. I hear it’s better for modelling and texturing though the Max v Maya camps are pretty entrenched 🙂

I used NetFusion to build my site thinking it would be easier, the only thing is if I find a mistake (like the one you’re talking about) it’s so hard to try and get NetFusion to play nice about it.

NetFusion … that’s “wysiwyg” is it? I code everything by hand, it’s slow but you know every part of the page intimately … hmm, that sounds bad. It means I can find and fix problems easier because I know all the code that went into it.
Can you edit the html/css files of your site or does it have to be done thro NetFusion?

There’s your problem … your main table:

“width=1000”

remove this if possible or if you HAVE to put a value then set it to something small (less than approx 780)

Thanks Maca I’ll have a look. I can edit the html files but only certain parts. Netfusion is indeed a wysiwyg editor because I just don’t know enough about web authoring to attempt to code it myself. I know only the very basics. It allows you to see the html and edit parts of it but other parts are greyed out and can’t be touched. Hopefully the dimensions aren’t part of the latter. Thanks for the help.
