Canon 10D, 85mm, f2.8, 1/500, ISO 800
One of the greatest and most exciting parts of my trip came right at the end when I got to fly up to Seattle and have a little impromptu reunion with some of the people I spent 2 years in Mexico with. It had been about 13 years since we’d all seen each other and, even though we’re all married with kids, we got to pretend we were 21 again for a little while. Good times. I did take the opportunity to take a few photos of Marci and Erik‘s children. The photos in this post are of their two youngest, Zoey and Max. Zoey tagged along with us all weekend and was so quiet and laid back that you’d barely know she was there. Max is a little ball of energy who sings and dances wherever he goes. I had to crank up the shutter speed and even then I only caught a few that weren’t a blurred streak across the frame.

Love the eyes in that first one!
have to agree with emily. it’s the eyes. they draw me. and it doesn’t hurt that she’s such a little cutie, either.
Fabulous photo of these kids Claire, Zoey is my fave, wonderful eyes – and nice lighting too.
Reminds me of one of my favourite pics of my daughter too, when she was a baby. If I can find and scan the black & white pic I’ll send it.
Yer man’s funny too, looks like someone’s just holding him there for a minute until you get the shot.
I got my shopping basket of photo kit this week. Now have three speedlights and two umbrella stand sets, much testing and learning to be done. Also went for a Sigma 10-20mm ultra-wide lens – the angle of view is absolutely amazing, has to be handled with care though. Great for ‘in the middle of it all’ scenes and tight interiors. I was a bit dubious of Sigma quality (compared to Nikon) but I needn’t have worried this lens is robustly constructed and delivers excellent quality images, at a really good price too. One of the best ultra-wides (just short of fish-eye) available for the APC sensor DSLRs. This will be of little interest to you though if you’re headed for a Canon 5D.
And now back to reading the Strobist site…
Cheers.
The eyes are awesome in the first shot!
Thanks everyone. Davy, I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with with all that new kit. The 10-22 sounds like it would be a lot of fun to play around with.
Claire,
The 10mm focal length is just insane – I think it’s actually bending the space-time continuum. Although not actually a fish-eye lens you have to be careful to keep your own feet out of the shots!
I’ll put some of my test shots up on Flickr when I get the chance, be afraid…
