I took a long walk along the seafront at Greystones today. The place was really busy, probably because work starts on the new Marina tomorrow so everyone wanted to get a last look at how it is now. Still, after nearly two hours of walking I didn’t have a portrait. I’d chickened out of talking to the anglers on the pier, I didn’t want to bother the family eating their chips on the harbour wall and the young lads racing a quad bike around a nearby field were a little intimidating. So, I was heading home thinking I might have to write today’s portrait off as a failure when I heard the unmistakable sound of bagpipes coming from the cove. Sure enough there was a young man playing to the sea. So I quickly walked down to him and asked for a photo. He wasn’t quite the lone piper since he was starting to draw a bit of a crowd:

Really like the top photo. Hope all is well 🙂
I’m really enjoying your portrait series, hope you find lots of approachable subjects.
Thanks guys, I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep up the pace. It’s tougher than I thought to come up with a portrait every day.
“I didn’t want to bother the family eating their chips on the harbour wall ” 🙂
the inner thoughts of every photographer… … I just sneak up on people like that. and steal their chips
It was a big project, and maybe only easy to do if you have a big stockpile of portraits ready to go, which you could replenish at will. Hope you’re feeling better soon, take care.
lol Owen, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one…well, the thinking part, I’d chicken out of stealing the chips too 😀
