#4 Esther (aka my Mum)

Esther
Canon 10D 85mm, f2.8, 1/90, ISO 100

Only Day 4 and already I’ve failed at taking a portrait. The weather was just so nasty today that there was no way I was going for a walk with my camera! Still, my portrait for the day is one I took a few weeks ago of my gorgeous Mum at the dental clinic where she works.

BTW, nominations for the 2008 Irish Blog Awards are now open. Damien has restructured things this year so no more massive petitioning for votes, once a blog has been nominated the winners will be decided by a panel of judges. So, head on over and give some of your favourite blogs a nomination…this one too if you’re so inclined! Thank you Ryan for being kind enough to include a plug for my blog and for pointing out a couple of photoblogs I’d not come across before.

#3 Peter

Peter
Canon 10D 85mm, f5.6, 1/90, ISO 800

This is Peter who is the first bona fide person that I didn’t already know. It took me over an hour of walking to finally pluck up the courage to talk to someone and ask for their photo but Peter was very friendly even though he was busy working. I like this one in colour although you can see the black and white one here if you wish.

Update: Yes, I changed my mind about which one I liked the best…it’s the red hair that swung it for me I think 🙂

#2: Freddy

Freddy
Canon 10D 85mm, f2.8, 1/250, ISO 100

…I never said they were all going to be human portraits did I? This is Freddy, a bundle of wonderful, puppy energy. This was the only split second of time he gave me to capture him and then he was off again. He’s a rescue dog that got a loving home this Christmas.

Portrait A Day #1: Maurice

Maurice
Canon 10D 85mm, f2.8, 1/250, ISO 100

For 2008 I wanted to give myself a personal photography project, something to get me out and taking photos every day for no other reason than for the love of it. So my goal is to take a portrait a day for every day this year. This is the first…Maurice of the intrepid Greystones Winter Zimmer Swimmers after a bracing New Year’s Day dip in the Irish Sea.
