PhotoWalk

On Saturday afternoon, before the ladies tea party, I went on my very first photowalk. I can’t believe I’ve never been along to one before because it was a great laugh. Mind you, I didn’t really take that many photos, I was far too busy chatting and the weather meant we were forced (twisted arms you understand) into O’Donoghues for a drink or three. You can’t really blame me though, surrounded by lovely people like Redmum (who organised it all!), Elly, Phil, Andy, Keith, Ryan, John, Owen and Sandy (who joined us in the pub). We definitely need to do it again sometime!

Here’s a few that I did get:

Body Piercing
Canon 10D, 17mm, f5.6, 1/90, ISO 100

Newspaper Vendor
Canon 10D, 17mm, f6.7, 1/45, ISO 100

Ugg
Canon 10D, 17mm, f6.7, 1/45, ISO 100

Trinity Door
Canon 10D, 17mm, f6.7, 1/180, ISO 100

As The Dust Settles

I didn’t take many photos last night…I was far too busy meeting people and chatting. I did manage to snap a couple though and I’ve put them up on Flickr to add to what I’m sure will be loads that other people took of the evening’s events. First of all, the man of the moment, Damien Mulley (sorry I chopped the top of your head off Colm!). I reckon this ought to be my portrait No.28:

Damien
Canon 10D 85mm, f8, 1/8, ISO 400

Smooch
Canon 10D 85mm, f8, 1/8, ISO 400

John McAWilliams:

John
Canon 10D 85mm, f8, 1/8, ISO 400

Kieran Murphy in his chef’s hat:

Ice Cream Man
Canon 10D 85mm, f8, 1/8, ISO 400

Having A Laugh
Canon 10D 85mm, f8, 1/8, ISO 400

A couple more are over on Flickr. I do want to say I had a great evening and I met most of the bloggers that I wanted to although there were a few that I missed (there always are, there’s just not enough time!). Everyone I spoke to…Rick, Twenty, Fiona, John, Steven, Annette, Dermod, Catriona, Sinéad, Ryan, Redmum, John, Elly, Colm, Owen, Grandad, Grannymar, Lili, Devin, Sam, Sabrina, Una, Aoife, Frank, Fústar…(OK, I’m in trouble now, I’m forgetting loads of people!) Congratulations to all the other winners, you can see the full list at this link. Do check them out because there are some real gems and quite a few of them are personal favourites of mine. Also (because I was so nervous I could barely remember my own name up there on the stage let alone those who I should have been thanking!) thanks to the sponsors of the Photo Blog category, www.pix.ie, without the contribution of the sponsors there’s no way we’d be able to have such a great night every year.

Irish Blog Awards 2008

I’m stumbling off to my bed, and I promise I will post more about the awards and the pre-award events (with some photos of course) tomorrow when I’ve had a few hours sleep. But, I wanted to say that I’m thrilled to pieces and still a little bit stunned that gingerpixel won Best Photo Blog! How mad is that?! I couldn’t go to my bed without saying thank you to anyone who nominated me and to the judges who voted for me, oh and of course to Damien who made it all happen! What a night!

What Do You Get…

…if you put 400 bloggers in one room?

Yes, tonight’s the night the Irish blog world has been buzzing about for months. I’m off in an hour or so to go photowalking with the photobloggers, then it’s onto the Market Bar for tea with the Lay-dees before we all descend on the Alexander Hotel for the third annual Irish Blog Awards.

The awards themselves are sold out at this stage but if anyone reading this is interested the photowalk is open to anyone who wants to join us, whether you have a fancy DSLR or a camera phone. We’re meeting at the Spire on O’Connell Street at noon if you want to come along.

If I don’t get to say it to you tonight (and I have a feeling you’ll be a hard man to talk to), then thank you Damien for the huge amount of work that you’ve put into this and for all your helpers too.

Short Listed

I took a little blogging break and came back to a heaving list of spam comments to trawl through (I think it’s time to get a new anti-spam plug-in) and the lovely surprise of seeing that Gingerpixel has made it through to the short-list for Best Blog, Best Photoblog and most surprising of all, Most Humorous Post! Thank you kind judges I’m truly flattered and congratulations to all the other nominees, I’ve added so many to my Google Reader that I’m getting nothing done! I can’t wait for the shindig on the 1st of March. Are you going?
