Canon 10D 28mm, f1.8, 1/180, ISO 200
More from my afternoon with Daniel and his mum. I had a hard time confining myself to just a few of these because this little fella is just gorgeous. Thanks again to Maura for her patience and for allowing me to show these. If you’d like to see some more there’s a link at the end to the Flickr set.

Great job Claire. The images on black remind me of the Star Child in the movie “2001 a Space Odyssey” http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/1975/2001starchildnp2.jpg
Those are beautiful Claire 🙂
I’d say it was a scary departure from what you are used to snapping!

Wow! They’re amazing Claire.
They are such beautiful shots Claire. I especially like the first one on black. You have a good eye:)
Nice photos, great subject too – very cute, but tricky to photograph.
I love the full length shot, what a modest little fellow he is 😉
I’ve been thinking about lenses recently, after seeing the results you are getting with the wide apertures, and am very tempted to buy a Nikon prime 50mm 1.8. These are very cheap, but well-made and I don’t have any really wide aperture lenses (my wonderful 18-200 opens to f3.5 max). Not so much for the speed as I can get great quality even at 1600 ISO, but I really like the selective focus at open apertures – which you use to great effect in your portraits.
And, of course the 50mm will become approx 75mm effect on my DX Nikon, that’s a good length for portraits.
I’m also becoming very interested in off-camera flash lately, the brilliant Strobist blog has some great videos of creative flash use. After using mostly available light being able to create your own with multiple flash like that has a certain attraction.
Cheers.
Beautiful pictures. Well done!
Thanks guys. It was a pleasure for me, I would love to do more of this kind of photography now that I’ve had my first go at it!
Davy, do it! You’ll not regret it and if it’s as inexpensive as the Canon version than you’ve not got anything to lose.
Just lovely. Love the black & white toning. The second to last is my favorite but they are all good. Great work.
Hi Phil and thanks! I love your shots of the twins, now that would be a challenge!
Wow. I wish I’d got you round to take some pics of my little chap when he was born. 🙂
Aww, Sinéad I would have loved that!
