Christmas morning this year we stayed in Greystones to see the swimmers. Ever since his Christmas dip last year, Matt has been going down to Greystones beach for his daily swim and has become a bit of a swimming addict. Usually it’s just the small group of hardcore faithful but on Christmas morning hundreds turn out to jump in the sea…and jump quickly out again. It was a beautiful day and the sun was almost painfully bright but I took so many photos I had a hard time choosing my favourites. Everyone was having so much fun and the consensus seemed to be that the best method was to run like the clappers and just throw yourself in! Would you do it?

Thanks Theresa, I’m only sorry I didn’t catch more of the Zimmer Swimmers. You guys were all so used to the cold water though that there were no dramatic splashings and screamings for me to capture on camera! 😀
Went for a swim last year.
Was thinking of heading down as a spectator this year, but instead opted to walk the dogs in Glen o’ the Downs
Looks bloody freezing, but also great fun. There’s something charming about folks maintaining this kind of Christmas madness. If I lived there I’d be doing it, but maybe in my tri-laminate diving drysuit 😉
I was on picture #2 and I thought to myself, what could have been done here to distinguish that it was (a)freezing or (b) christmas.. and I thought, someone should have put a christmas santy hat on one of those swimmers… then, along comes picture #4… well done
