This final photo from last week is a little different from my usual style. I used what’s known as the Orton Effect to get the dreamy look. The jury’s still out for me on this shot, I’m not sure why…maybe it’s a little too chocolate box-y? Still it’s fun to do and in my opinion works best on shots of landscapes rather than people. There are many different ways to get this effect as a google search will show you but you can find a good tutorial at this link.

I really like it, but then I’m a sucker for that sort of look. It reminds me of Hansel and Gretel.
By the way, when I clicked on the image to see it close up and big, I got an error on flicker that it’s a private page.
It’s still a nice effect, especially in this shot with all the light and shadows!
I think it’s growing on me, after seeing how Michael Orton applies it himself, I love how he uses it.

It’s definitely not chocolate-boxy, Claire. It’s a very special and dreamy image and beautifully handled. I learned Orton myself from a Dutch Flickr guy and it certainly is ideal for forests like this. It also evokes emotions – as all great photographs should.
