Red Maple

Red Maple
Canon 10D, 85mm, f1.8, 1/2000, ISO 100

You might not have noticed….I kind of love Maple Trees.

Happy Monday, had a good weekend? I had an extremely busy one with a birthday/rugby World Cup party on Saturday and a massive walk yesterday posting flyers about a new school we’re trying to get for Greystones. Put on top of all that the fact that Eve’s not very well at all and it was pretty hectic. Not many chances to relax…ie take photos. We may have another trip to the emergency room looming so this photo is my little calm before the storm.

The Last Duet On Earth

via Drawn is the latest animation by Graham Annable. Wonderful timing in this short, such simple animation but the facial expressions, looks between the characters and the music are all so well done. Very impressive when you know that he put it together with iMovie, the free software that comes with Apple Macs.

Oh, and of course, there are zombies…that always adds points in my book.

Finally, A Photo Of Me.

Grandkids

Ok, ok, I guess it’s only fair that I finally allow someone to point a camera at me for a change! You guys have asked to see a photo of me so here’s one that’s very recent…just a couple of weeks ago in fact at my DaDa’s birthday/retirement party. This is a shot of the man of the hour with his grandkids…well, most of them, three others weren’t present because they were a little too young to be at the party. I’m the one in the centre to my DaDa’s left. I know a few of my cousins check my blog out from time to time but they’re all so fabulous-looking I know they won’t mind me showing them off.

One thing that’s become a bit of a tradition with these cousins is that when we all get together we re-enact a photograph taken over twenty years ago (1985 I think it was, or was it 86? Maybe one of my cousins can correct me). It was taken one Christmas on the stairs in my grandparent’s house in Glenageary. I’m sitting right at the top left, aged about 13, and my little brother (who may just kill me) is the one on the bottom right with his finger wedged in his nose:

The Cousins 1985

This one is from 2000, at my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary (just to show my brother turned out to be a very respectable young man despite earlier bad habits, he’s the one on the bottom left):

The Cousins 2000

And then the latest one from the party a few weeks ago (with the addition of Shauna at the front, who was only a twinkle when the first photo was taken.):

The Cousins 2007

So there you go…not just one photo of me but a whole family history 😀

Three!? How’d That Happen?

Look At Me
Canon 10D, 19mm, f4, 1/180, ISO 200

Somehow, Eve has managed to age three years and I don’t quite know how that’s possible. I’m sure she was only born a couple of months ago! I spent a few moments last night reminiscing about this day three years ago when the mid-wives held up a black-haired, dark-eyed, sallow-skinned girl and it hit me…she’s a whole different person. I think I expected her to be me, only smaller so when she wasn’t pale, blue-eyed and ginger I was taken aback. She was also far too beautiful.

She’s continued to be her very own person and today she’s an outgoing, funny, thoughtful little girl who, despite her father’s best efforts, is developing a love for all things Barbie. She’s no girly-girl though and will launch herself fearlessly into groups of children three times her age. When we’re out walking she will call “Hello!” to random strangers, which I’ve seen bring a smile to the scariest of faces, and she has no trouble introducing herself to other children in the playground…”I’m Eve Wilson, I’m three,” she’ll say, thrusting out five fingers.

She has a full-on drama queen gene too (I’m blaming her Aunt Deborah for that one!) and has taken to smacking her hands to her cheeks and exclaiming, “Oh….Ma…..GOTTT!” at random moments. Those are the times when I have to leave the room to stop myself from laughing. I took the photo below while we were in Mt. Usher. She was having a moment…I think I’d just told her the river wasn’t for swimming in. She just has no fear…nowadays I wish I was more like Eve!

Please Do Not Jump
Canon 10D, 28mm, f2, 1/3000, ISO 100

I’ve been thinking it’s time to call in the decorators again and give the blog a bit of a sprucing up. I want less clutter overall, something a bit more streamlined and I’d like to have the space to post larger photographs. I launched into it at midnight last night (why is it always at that time of night when I get these great ideas?) and of course proceeded to erase my entire blogroll. Well, it’s back up again now but I still want to change a few things around so if the site goes a bit funny over the next few days you’ll know why. Hopefully I won’t mess things up too much!

Update: Whew! I think I’ve managed to get through it without any major mishaps (knock on wood). So, other than the obvious changes like font, colour, header, etc. I’ve now got loads more space for larger photos (which means I’m going to have to start taking more care with my sharpness!). I’ve tidied away my out-of-control Blogroll and Archives to their own pages. There’s also an About Me page explaining a little bit about how I got into photography and answering some frequently-asked questions. You can find the links to those pages as well as to my other websites over to the right on the sidebar. I thought it would be fun to put a little “In My Bag” section over there too since I know I love to hear what other photographers have in their camera bags. If you’re having trouble viewing this page or if the header hasn’t changed you might have to clear out your cache so that the changes show up in your browser.

So those are the main things. If you find any bugs please let me know and I hope you like the changes!
