#27: Bobby

Walking down the road after I’d photographed Milton, and feeling confident, I saw this wonderful face. Bobby was standing in the doorway of a pub and he said, “Ah sure, why not?” when I asked if I could take his photo.

#26: Milton

A good day for portraits today. I set out at lunchtime to explore the area around Smithfield and I spotted Milton from across the road, enjoying his lunch in a little pool of sunlight. Our conversation was via sign language but he was all smiles and happy to oblige the crazy lady. Even wrote his name in the dust on the window after I took the shot.

Edited to add that the short list for the Blog Awards has been made even shorter and Gingerpixel has survived the chop in the Best Blog and Best Photoblog catergories! I didn’t realise there would be another round so I’m thrilled to bits to have made it through.

The Smithfield area in Dublin City has been given a huge facelift, hundreds of new apartments and office blocks have been built and the whole place looks very modern but it’s a little like an island. All around it there are these old, rundown buildings, pubs and shops. I’m enjoying using my lunchbreaks to go out and explore.

My nephew Sean celebrated his first birthday over the weekend. He’s such a good baby, always happy to observe whatever’s going on around him. While he was quietly enjoying his slice of birthday cake you’d never know it to look at this photo but there was a manic grass fight going on behind me.

My Grandparent’s House

Dishes
Canon 10D 28mm, f1.8, 1/125, ISO 200

The day after my DaDa passed away I went to his house to take photographs. It might sound a little morbid but this house is something very special in my family. My grandparent’s lived there for their whole married life, and it was my great-grandparent’s house before that. My mother was born in their bedroom upstairs and so were her two brothers and two sisters. For as long as I can remember it was the hub of our extended family…Christmas, New Years, summertime, Sunday dinners…it all happened there. So, now that it’s to be sold and passed on to become a part of somebody else’s family history, I wanted to try and capture something of it. I spent nearly two hours photographing everything I could think of and my plan is to create a book with all the photographs. Something to keep and remember.

In the meantime (the book is taking me awhile to put together) I thought I might share just a couple of shots. These are a few that I took in the old kitchen of the house including my NaNa’s old recipe book stuffed full of recipes she’d torn from magazines and many more in her own handwriting. Grannymar I thought of you when I found these and made sure to take photographs of the handwritten ones!
